H.R. No. 1930


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ramos Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service was established in the 1940s by Ignacio Ramos, Sr., as one of the few Hispanic-owned businesses in Kingsville, and it continues to flourish today; and WHEREAS, In the 1920s, working with the Texas Rangers, Mr. Ramos assisted in the pursuit of "Tequileros," who illegally transported whiskey from Mexico into Texas during Prohibition; he participated in several horse and cattle roundups that served as a sting operation intended to interdict the ubiquitous and illicit traffic; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ramos worked as a butcher in the Hebbronville area throughout the 1930s and then, in the 1940s, embarked on a new career path by taking correspondence courses in radio and refrigeration repair to help meet the growing service needs of South Texas; while maintaining his full-time job as a machinist for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, he ventured into the refrigeration and air conditioning business by selling refrigerators on a part-time basis door-to-door in Kingsville; and WHEREAS, After retiring as a refrigeration machinist with the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, Mr. Ramos expanded Ramos Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service, opening a store on King Street in Kingsville in the 1960s; and WHEREAS, The perseverance, integrity, and commitment to the people of South Texas that Ignacio Ramos demonstrated during his lifetime are today reflected by the third generation of his family as they operate the successful business that he started; and WHEREAS, Ramos Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service remains dedicated to the family tradition of professional service, quality merchandise, and fair business practices; the company has expanded its service area to include nearly every county in South Texas, while generously supporting the work of local schools, churches, and charitable organizations; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor Ramos Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service--an outstanding Hispanic, family owned and operated business--for its exceptional commitment to the people of Kingsville and South Texas, and extend to all those associated with this enterprise sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Ramos family as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
