R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Alberto "Beto" Garza, Sr., established Beto's Community Grocery of Kingsville in August 1968; and WHEREAS, Born on November 4, 1924, in Gonzalez, Mexico, this outstanding businessman emigrated to the Lone Star State and here married Herlinda Garza; and WHEREAS, His store, Beto's Community Grocery, quickly became a popular retail outlet where the families of Kingsville came each day to purchase groceries; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garza is an exemplary small business owner and entrepreneur in the rural Kingsville community, and his store's 35-year history is a testament to the owner's integrity and commitment to customer service; the grocery, like many thousands of small businesses in South Texas, has greatly added to the economic viability of our state by providing jobs and promoting commerce; and WHEREAS, The founder of this successful retail establishment has fulfilled his dream of prosperity, enduring times when economic conditions were not optimal for success, and in 1972 his hard work and determination allowed him to open a new store; and WHEREAS, In July 1978, Mr. Garza's two sons, Juan Rene Garza and Alberto Garza, Jr., took over the family business in the same tradition as their father; and WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Beto's Community Grocery has been a training ground for many young people entering the world of work and has encouraged many South Texans to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor Alberto Garza, Sr., as an outstanding citizen for his commendable operation of the exemplary small business, Beto's Community Grocery; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for prominent display in Beto's Community Grocery as an expression of high regard and best wishes by the Texas House of Representatives.
