H.R. No. 1960


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The people of South Texas have a long and proud tradition of service in the armed forces of the United States, and Sergeant Esther Yolanda Gonzalez has sustained that tradition through her valiant efforts in the Iraqi campaign; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Gonzalez, 24, graduated from La Villa High School and joined the U.S. Army three years ago; she is the daughter of Guadalupe and Eloisa Garcia; and WHEREAS, On April 10, 2003, citizens of the Delta area gathered at the city hall in Elsa to pay tribute to Sergeant Gonzalez and other courageous service members from the surrounding communities; and WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Peña has justly recognized Sergeant Gonzalez in the Texas House of Representatives, for citizens across the country owe this resolute American and her fellow servicemen and servicewomen an immeasurable debt of gratitude for the burdens and sacrifice they have assumed, and for their unwavering dedication to those rights and ideals that have made this nation, for so many around the world, the promised land; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor Sergeant Esther Yolanda Gonzalez for her service in the Iraqi war and extend to her profound appreciation for her brave and steadfast efforts in this country's behalf; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Sergeant Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
