H.R. No. 1961


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Aurora Corona Casas, a student at South Texas Community College (STCC), has received the Presidential Inspirational Achievement Award for serving as a role model for STCC students, faculty, and staff; and WHEREAS, After working 30 years for Haggar Clothing Company, Mrs. Casas made the commendable decision to return to school to continue her education; though it had been some four decades since she last took classes, she has thrived in the college environment at STCC; and WHEREAS, A member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, this remarkable woman has maintained a high grade point average while working toward an associate's degree in accounting; the presidential award, presented to her during the STCC graduation ceremony on May 17, 2003, includes a $1,000 scholarship to assist her in pursuing her studies at the college; and WHEREAS, Aurora Casas has justly earned the respect and admiration of her family, friends, and fellow students, and it is indeed a pleasure to commend her at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize Aurora Corona Casas for her commitment to excellence as a student and for her noteworthy academic achievements and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Casas as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
