R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dominic De la Garza has earned the distinction of
being salutatorian at Edinburg High School, and for achieving this
auspicious honor he is truly deserving of special legislative
recognition; and
WHEREAS, Earning the right to call oneself "salutatorian"
requires not only intellect and aptitude, but four years of
dedication to the highest academic standards; the salutatorian must
display a firm understanding of the entire curriculum, from math
and science to language arts to social studies, while demonstrating
an unwavering commitment to education; and
WHEREAS, The salutatorian serves as a role model and leads by
example, combining a steadfast vision of excellence with a
tenacious enthusiasm; the competition for this coveted honor is
often fierce, although the spirit of the rivalry remains rooted in a
tradition of goodwill and the rewards of the countless hours of
study and preparation are myriad; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure in high school, Mr. De la Garza has
distinguished himself through his membership in the National Honor
Society and Spanish National Honor Society and his participation on
the varsity golf team and in U.I.L. math, calculator, and number
sense competition; and
WHEREAS, The son of Peter and Alma De la Garza, Mr. De la
Garza has earned the respect and admiration of his friends and
classmates at Edinburg High School, and as he prepares to attend The
University of Texas at Austin, it is most fitting to pay tribute to
him for this outstanding accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dominic De la Garza on being named
the 2003 salutatorian at Edinburg High School and wish him well in
all his future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. De la Garza as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
