R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Daniel Joel Davila has earned the distinction of
being salutatorian at Edinburg North High School, and for achieving
this auspicious honor he is truly deserving of special legislative
recognition; and
WHEREAS, Earning the right to call oneself "salutatorian"
requires not only intellect and aptitude, but four years of
dedication to the highest academic standards; the salutatorian must
display a firm understanding of the entire curriculum, from math
and science to language arts to social studies, while demonstrating
an unwavering commitment to education; and
WHEREAS, The salutatorian serves as a role model and leads by
example, combining a steadfast vision of excellence with a
tenacious enthusiasm; the competition for this coveted honor is
often fierce, although the spirit of the rivalry remains rooted in a
tradition of goodwill and the rewards of the countless hours of
study and preparation are myriad; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Davila has looked to his
older brothers, Gerardo and David, as his role models; his myriad
achievements include membership in the National Honor Society and
participation in U.I.L. events as a first-place champion and
two-time member of the state number sense team, a sixth-place
finish in the state science competition, and two-time membership on
the all-state choir; and
WHEREAS, The son of Ramiro and Maria G. Davila, Mr. Davila has
earned the respect and admiration of his friends and classmates at
Edinburg North High School, and as he prepares to attend the
California Institute of Technology, it is most fitting to pay
tribute to him for this outstanding accomplishment; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Daniel Joel Davila on being named
the 2003 salutatorian at Edinburg North High School and wish him
well in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Davila as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
