H.R. No. 2010
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Edelmiro Eusebio "Eddie" Garza of Mission passed
away on April 26, 2003, at the age of 81, and his family and friends
deeply mourn this great loss; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 5, 1922, in Mission, Mr. Garza
graduated as valedictorian from Sharyland High School and attended
McAllen Business College; and
WHEREAS, In 1940, he began working for the John H. Shary
organization, which he left to serve in the U.S. Navy from
1942-1945; during his service, he trained in the Navy Electrical
School at the University of Minnesota and at the Teletype
Corporation in Chicago and served in the South Pacific; after
completion of his military duty, Mr. Garza resumed his employment
with the Shary and Shivers organization, where he stayed until
1998; and
WHEREAS, An active and valued member of his community, Mr.
Garza served for 15 years on Mission's Planning and Zoning Board and
was treasurer for the new Mission Historical Museum; a member of the
American Legion, he also belonged to the Catholic War Veterans,
Roberto Gonzales Post 1065, and served as commander, state
commander, and treasurer; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Garza contributed greatly
to the betterment of his community, and he positively influenced
the lives of countless others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Edelmiro
Eusebio "Eddie" Garza and extend deepest sympathy to the members of
his family: to his beloved wife of 57 years, Grace Garza; to his
eight children and their spouses, Gloria and Jose Gutierrez, Linda
Alaniz, Cynthia and Tom Weber, Robert and Melinda Garza, Iris and
Moy Iglesias, Richard and Maggie Garza, Mary and Ray Flores, and
Christine Garza; to his brother and his wife, Arnoldo and Elida
Garza; to this three sisters and their husbands, Yolanda and Arturo
Garcia, Beatrice and Efrain Peña, and Elisa and Gavino Garza; to his
18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and to his other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edelmiro
Eusebio Garza.
