R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA),
under the leadership of executive director Jim Hargrove, is one of
the premier housing authorities in the Lone Star State; and
WHEREAS, Recognized by state and federal officials, the HACA
recently received a perfect score in a federal review of its Section
8 program, which provides financial assistance to people who rent
private homes, and its public housing program earned 96 out of 100
points; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, the Texas National Association of Housing
and Redevelopment Officials chose Mr. Hargrove to serve as its
president and also awarded several meritorious citations to the
HACA, including commissioner of the year, resident of the year,
maintenance person of the year, best annual report, and best
newsletter; the HACA also received special recognition for the
Summer Camp for Kids program and for exceptional press coverage at
its Scholarship Banquet and Camp HACA; and
WHEREAS, Emerging from a period of difficulties and
reorganization, the HACA has proven itself to be a model for
efficiency and service, designed to accomplish the most worthwhile
goal of providing affordable and respectable housing for countless
Austin residents, and all those associated with this exemplary
endeavor are truly deserving of special legislative recognition;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the Housing Authority of the City of
Austin on its many achievements and extend to it warmest best wishes
for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the HACA as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
