H.R. No. 2020
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Bert D. Levine of McAllen was recently honored
by the Rio Grande Valley Psychological Association for his more
than 50 years of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, A member of the state psychological association
since 1952, Dr. Levine moved to Harlingen in the late 1950s and
stayed for 10 years working for the school district and running a
private practice; he then moved to McAllen to establish a practice
and teach at The University of Texas--Pan American, where he
instructed until the early 1990s; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Levine, a native of Brooklyn, earned degrees
from Long Island University in Brookville, New York, as well as from
The University of Texas at Austin; he also served his country as a
U.S. Marine Corps veteran; and
WHEREAS, Arriving in the Rio Grande Valley at a time when few
psychologists were available to treat patients suffering from
mental illness, Dr. Levine was a pioneer to the area's mental health
profession, and he has touched the lives of countless individuals
over the years, earning the abiding respect and admiration of his
fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Dr. Bert D. Levine for his more than 50
years of service in the Rio Grande Valley and extend to him best
wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Levine as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
