R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On June 21, 2003, members of the Jacksonville High School Class of 1953 are gathering to celebrate their 50th reunion, and this noteworthy occasion is truly deserving of special recognition; and WHEREAS, As these proud Jacksonville Fighting Indians rekindle old friendships and bring former classmates up to date, they may peruse the memory book that holds news of their fellow class members, including greetings sent from those members unable to attend, signatures of past reunion participants, notices of accomplishments and of the passing of 18 classmates from the original 106 young men and women of the class; and WHEREAS, Festivities include a meal catered by the Jacksonville restaurant Larissa and the making of a video featuring music and photos of class members, teachers, and staff from 1953 and special times at football games and dances; concluding the evening will be a taped recording of adored teacher Mary Frances Childress playing the school's song; and WHEREAS, Graduates of 1953 have distinguished themselves as valued members of their communities, and their lifestyles reflect their diverse interests and hobbies; one individual has lived in a straw house, while another collects Edsels; their reunion schedule has also been distinctive, for the initial gathering marked 18 years while their 47th celebrated the new millennium; and WHEREAS, In reaffirming their ties with Jacksonville High School, the men and women of the Class of 1953 also demonstrate the camaraderie and sense of community that are the linchpins securing the stability and harmony of Texas society, both rural and urban; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jacksonville High School's Class of 1953 and extend to its members warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness.
