H.R. No. 2023
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Honorable John White, maintenance supervisor at
the Lubrizol Corporation, Deer Park Plant, has earned the esteem of
the people of Ames, Texas, as that city's mayor; and
WHEREAS, After serving a term on the Ames City Council, Mayor
White won election as mayor of Ames in 1993 and has ably fulfilled
the many duties of that demanding position for 10 years; among his
notable achievements in that capacity has been the acquisition of
grants for the town's sewer system and to provide improved housing
for low-income and elderly citizens; and
WHEREAS, He has held the offices of president and chairman of
the Texas Conference of Black Mayors since 1999 and was elected to
the board of directors of the National Conference of Black Mayors in
2002; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure in public service, Mayor White
has worked tirelessly to create a brighter, more prosperous future
for his fellow citizens, and it is most appropriate that he receive
special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the Honorable John White on his notable
contributions to his community and to the State of Texas and extend
to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mayor White as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
