R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid has introduced a number of initiatives designed to protect crime victims, consumers, and the environment during her tenure in office; and WHEREAS, A New Mexico native, this dynamic woman holds a degree in law from the University of New Mexico and was the first woman elected to the New Mexico District Court; and WHEREAS, Elected as the 29th New Mexico attorney general in November 1998, she has been honored as the 2001 Latina Lawyer of the Year by the Hispanic Bar Association and as the recipient of the Trailblazer Award by the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women, and she has twice been recognized by New Mexico Business Weekly; and WHEREAS, Throughout her many years of public service benefiting all of the people of New Mexico, Patricia Madrid has upheld her convictions with style and grace, demonstrating a willingness to do what she feels is right for the people of New Mexico; she has set high standards to which all may aspire, and it is a pleasure to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid for her many significant achievements in office and for her leadership and graciousness in behalf of her colleagues in Texas, and extend to her best wishes for continued success in her vital role as attorney general; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
