A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the issuance of a temporary driving permit. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subsection (f), Section 524.011, Transportation Code, is amended to read as follows: (f) A temporary driving permit issued under this section: (1) expires on the 41st day after the date of issuance; and (2) [. If the person was driving a commercial motor vehicle, as defined by Section 522.003, a temporary driving permit that authorizes the person to drive a commercial motor vehicle] is not effective until 24 hours after the time of arrest. SECTION 2. Subsection (e), Section 724.032, Transportation Code, is amended to read as follows: (e) A temporary driving permit issued under this section: (1) expires on the 41st day after the date of issuance; and (2) [. If the person was driving a commercial motor vehicle, as defined by Section 522.003, a temporary driving permit that authorizes the person to drive a commercial motor vehicle] is not effective until 24 hours after the time of arrest. SECTION 3. This Act applies only to a temporary driving permit issued under Section 524.011 or 724.032, Transportation Code, as amended by this Act, on or after the effective date of this Act. A temporary driving permit issued before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law as it existed when the permit was issued, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose. SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
