A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to employment by the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Texas School for the Deaf of persons who hold school district teaching permits. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 30.024, Education Code, is amended by adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: (g) Notwithstanding Subsection (a) or any other provision of this code, the school may employ as a classroom teacher a person who holds a school district teaching permit issued under Section 21.055 if a person who holds a certificate issued under Subchapter B, Chapter 21, authorizing the person to teach is not available for the position. SECTION 2. Section 30.055, Education Code, is amended by adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: (g) Notwithstanding Subsection (a) or any other provision of this code, the school may employ as a classroom teacher a person who holds a school district teaching permit issued under Section 21.055 if a person who holds a certificate issued under Subchapter B, Chapter 21, authorizing the person to teach is not available for the position. SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2003-2004 school year. SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
