A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the placement by legislators of certain items outside
their offices in the State Capitol.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 443.024, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
(e) A state legislator may display the flag of the State of
Texas and the flag of the United States immediately outside the
legislator's assigned office in the Capitol. The board shall adopt
rules to regulate the display of the flags, including requirements
for flag display stands and reasonable limitations on the size and
placement of the flags.
SECTION 2. Chapter 443, Government Code, is amended by
adding Section 443.029 to read as follows:
Sec. 443.029. VISITOR REGISTERS FOR LEGISLATIVE OFFICES. A
state legislator may place a visitor register immediately outside
the legislator's assigned office in the Capitol. The board, with
the advice of the state fire marshal, shall adopt reasonable rules
to regulate the placement of the visitor registers and the
requirements for register display stands or tables.
SECTION 3. The State Preservation Board shall adopt rules
as required by Sections 443.024(e) and 443.029, Government Code, as
added by this Act, not later than January 1, 2004.
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
