A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the superintendents of the Texas School for the Blind
and Visually Impaired and the Texas School for the Deaf.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subsection (d), Section 30.023, Education Code,
is amended to read as follows:
(d) The board shall annually establish the superintendent's
salary. The annual salary [must be based on not more than 230 days
of service and] may not exceed 120 percent of the annual salary of
the highest paid instructional administrator at the school.
SECTION 2. Subsections (d) and (f), Section 30.053,
Education Code, are amended to read as follows:
(d) The board shall annually establish the superintendent's
salary. The annual salary [must be based on not more than 230 days
of service and] may not exceed 120 percent of the annual salary of
the highest paid instructional administrator at the school.
(f) The superintendent may provide directly to a parent or
guardian of a student written information regarding:
(1) the availability of the [a] program offered by the
school [a state institution] for which the student may be eligible;
(2) any eligibility and admission requirements
imposed by the school [state institution]; and
(3) the rights of a student regarding admission to the
school [state institution] and appeal of an admission decision.
SECTION 3. Subsection (d), Section 30.023, and Subsection
(d), Section 30.053, Education Code, as amended by this Act, apply
only to a superintendent's salary under a contract entered into on
or after the effective date of this Act.
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
