A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to educational incentive pay under the municipal civil 
service law in certain cities.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 143.112, Local Government Code, is 
amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
	(d)  If the municipality authorizes educational incentive 
pay under this section, each eligible fire fighter within each 
classification shall be entitled to the amount established by city 
ordinance or an amount equal to ten percent of base salary upon 
attaining an associate's degree, twenty percent of base salary upon 
attaining a baccalaureate's degree, twenty-five percent of base 
salary upon attaining a master's or doctorate degree, whichever is 
larger.
	SECTION 2.  This Act take effect September 1, 2003.
