A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to educational incentive pay under certain municipal civil
service systems.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 143.112, Local Government Code, is
amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
(d) If the municipality authorizes educational incentive
pay under this section, each eligible fire fighter within each
classification on receipt of a degree from an accredited college or
university is entitled to the larger of:
(1) the amount set by municipal ordinance; or
(2) an amount equal to:
(A) 10 percent of the fire fighter's base salary
if the degree is an associate degree;
(B) 20 percent of the fire fighter's base salary
if the degree is a baccalaureate degree; or
(C) 25 percent of the fire fighter's base salary
if the degree is a master's or doctoral degree.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
