S.B. No. 674
AN ACT
relating to compensatory time off for certain persons who are
employed by the state as peace officers.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subsection (b), Section 662.005, Government
Code, is amended to read as follows:
(b) Except as provided by Section 662.010, and
notwithstanding Section 659.015 or another law, a state employee
who is a peace officer commissioned by a state officer or state
agency listed under Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, [the
Department of Public Safety] and who is required to work on a
national or state holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday is
entitled to compensatory time off at the rate of one hour for each
hour worked on the holiday.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
