A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to involuntary medical separation from employment of firefighters in certain cities. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 143.1115, Local Government Code, is amended by adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: (g) A fire fighter who has suffered a line of duty illness or injury and who is determined under the procedure prescribed by this section to be unable to perform the fire fighter's duties or assignment may not be involuntarily medically separated from employment in the classified service if there is any other position within the fire department that the fire fighter is capable of performing. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
