A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a list of free resources for the instruction of personal
finance and consumer education in public schools.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 28.008 to read as follows:
Sec. 28.008. RESOURCES FOR INSTRUCTION OF PERSONAL FINANCE
AND CONSUMER EDUCATION. (a) The agency shall annually compile for
distribution to school districts a list of free resources available
to public schools that relate to the instruction of personal
finance and consumer education.
(b) The agency shall provide the list to the superintendent
of each school district not later than July 1 of each year.
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2004-2005
school year.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
