A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to restricting availability of weight-lifting equipment 
or accessories to certain inmates imprisoned in the institutional 
division of the Texas Department Criminal Justice.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 501, Government Code, is 
amended by adding section 502.018 to read as follows:
	Sec. 501.018.  RECREATIONAL AMENITIES.  The institutional 
division may not allow an inmate serving a sentence for an offense 
under Title 5, and chapter 29 and 30 of Title 7, penal code, or an 
inmate classified as subject to close custody or administrative 
segregation, other than an inmate classified as subject to 
administrative segregation level I protective custody, access to 
weightlifting equipment or accessories other than in connection 
with physician-recommended physical therapy.
	SECTION 2.  This act takes effect September 1, 2003.
