COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1                                                By:  WestAmend S.B. No. 1232 in SECTION 1 of the bill by adding Subsection (e), Section 11.163, Education Code, as follows:



	(e)  If a district has less than 10 days notice during the 
school year that a job vacancy will occur in a teaching position, 
the district shall post the job vacancy but may proceed to fill the 
vacant position.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to school district job postings. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 11.163, Education Code, is amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: (d) The employment policy must provide that all job vacancies be posted, for at least 10 working days, by the district in a place readily accessible to the public and that all current employees be given an opportunity to apply for open positions. SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2003-2004 school year. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
