A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to salaries on which pension benefits are based for police 
officers in certain municipalities.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 1(23), Chapter 88, Acts of the 77th 
Legislature, Regular Session, 2001 (Article 6243h, Vernon's Texas 
Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows:
		(23)  "Salary" means base pay, longevity pay, and 
shift-differential pay paid to an employee and attributable to 
services rendered by the employee, regardless of how the employee 
was paid.  The term includes pay that is paid to an employee under an 
agreement ratified under Subchapter J, Chapter 143, Local 
Government Code, other than overtime pay under that agreement.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
