A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the minimum staffing for certain fire apparatus in 
certain fire departments.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subsection G, Chapter 143, Local Government 
Code, is amended by adding section 143.055 to read as follows:
	(a)  Fire companies whose primary functions are to pump and 
deliver water and preform basic fire fighting at fires shall be 
known as engine companies and shall be staffed with a minimum of 
four on-duty personnel.
	(b)  Fire companies whose primary functions are to perform 
the variety of services associated with truck work, such as 
forcible entry, ventilation, search and rescue, aerial operations, 
utility control, illumination, overhaul, and salvage work shall be 
know as ladder or truck companies and shall be staffed with a 
minimum of four on-duty personnel.
	SECTION 2.  This act takes effect September 1, 2003.
