A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the eligibility for police department promotional 
examination in certain municipalities.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 143.031, Local Government Code, is 
amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
	(d)  In a municipality with a population of 1.5 million or 
more, police officers shall not be eligible to take the promotional 
examination for the rank of Sergeant until they have completed at 
least five (5) total years of service from their date(s) of hire.  
The five (5) years of service required under this subsection need 
not be continuous and may be a cumulative total from one or more 
dates of hire.
