A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to duties of certain motor vehicle dealers on the transfer 
of used vehicles.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 520, Transportation Code, 
is amended by adding Section 520.024 to read as follows:
	Sec. 520.024.  DUTIES OF CERTAIN MOTOR VEHICLE DEALERS ON 
TRANSFER OF USED VEHICLE.  If a transferee is a franchised or 
independent motor vehicle dealer as defined by Section 503.001, the 
transferee must inform the transferor of a motor vehicle of the 
right to file a written notice of transfer with the department under 
Section 520.023.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
