A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to prohibiting the use of certain live bait in saltwater
fishing; providing a penalty.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 66, Parks and Wildlife
Code, is amended by adding Section 66.207 to read as follows:
Sec. 66.207. CROAKER AS LIVE BAIT. (a) A person may not
engage in fishing using for bait croaker that is less than 10 inches
in length. A person who violates this section is subject to the
penalty provided in Section 66.218.
(b) In this section, "croaker" means a fish of the
Sciaenidae family and includes Atlantic croaker (Micropogonias
undulatus), American stardrum (Stellifer lanceolatus), spot
croaker (Leiostomus xanthurus), and sand weakfish (Cynoscion
arenarius).
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
