A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to license eligibility for certain law enforcement officers. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is amended by adding Section 1701.162 to read as follows: Sec. 1701.162. LIMITATION ON EDUCATION REQUIREMENT. The commission may not adopt a rule that requires an applicant to hold an associate degree conferred by a junior college or a higher academic degree conferred by an institution of higher education to be eligible for a license under this chapter. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
