CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the National D-Day Museum and its proposed exhibit "We're
All In This Together"; and
WHEREAS, The National D-Day Museum opened in New Orleans,
Louisiana, on June 6, 2000, to worldwide acclaim; more than one
million visitors have viewed the museum's exhibits since the grand
opening; and
WHEREAS, The museum's board of trustees has undertaken a
campaign to develop the site into the world's foremost center for
World War II history; a major component of this effort is the
creation of the Center for the Study of the American Spirit; and
WHEREAS, The "We're All In This Together" exhibit will be the
center's major project; and will be the most extensive compilation
of the contributions made to our country by the 48 states and two
territories of the United States during World War II; the exhibit
will include information on military personnel, defense
industries, military installations, units raised, prisoner of war
camps, and of the contributions of individuals and industries from
each state; and
WHEREAS, The information in this exhibit will preserve and
honor the memories and experiences of the veterans of World War II
and of the countless Americans who supported the war effort; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby commend the founder and members of the board of directors of
the National D-Day Museum for their important work in preserving
some of this nation's most significant historical records relating
to World War II and extend best wishes to all associated with the
museum on the effort to organize the "We're All In This Together"
exhibit.
