CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Southeast Texas Community Development Corporation,
Incorporated, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary on May 10,
2003; and
WHEREAS, Founded and incorporated by former State
Representative Al Price, the organization has played an important
role in neighborhood redevelopment and revitalization by
constructing new homes in formerly blighted areas; and
WHEREAS, The Southeast Texas Community Development
Corporation has marketed home ownership to more than 5,000
prospective home buyers, and it has offered credit counseling and
credit repair services to approximately 2,000 clients; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 10 years, the organization has
constructed 73 new homes and 19 units of multifamily housing, and it
has rehabilitated 28 existing houses, thereby providing safe,
decent, and affordable housing to more than 350 individuals; and
WHEREAS, Through their diligence and commitment to providing
the residents of Beaumont with better housing, the dedicated
individuals associated with the Southeast Texas Community
Development Corporation have contributed more than $10 million to
the city's economy; the financial boon has included construction
loans and mortgages, the purchase of construction materials, and
contracts with local businesses; and
WHEREAS, In honor of its 10th anniversary, the Southeast
Texas Community Development Corporation will break ground for the
construction of 10 new homes in Beaumont, one for each year that the
organization has served the housing needs of many in the community;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby commend Southeast Texas Community Development Corporation,
Incorporated, for its exemplary service to the City of Beaumont and
congratulate all associated with the organization on their many
contributions to its success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
corporation as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
