SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Leadership Southwest, a dynamic program of personal development for individuals interested in providing community service and concerned about community issues; and WHEREAS, Participants in Leadership Southwest are selected from a cross section of candidates from Southwest Dallas; participants in the program benefit from instruction by well-known community and business leaders, and they gain new knowledge and insights about economic development, the justice system and law enforcement, health and human services, and transportation; and WHEREAS, Leadership Southwest seeks to provide the community with well-trained, energized leaders, who are prepared to serve in positions of responsibility; at once-a-month classes, program participants are introduced to compelling issues and topics, gain insights on pivotal issues, build a network of contacts, develop personal leadership skills, and identify opportunities for community involvement; at the conclusion of the program, participants receive a certificate of completion; and WHEREAS, Leadership Southwest participants become an integral part of the civic, business, and professional groups of their community through serving on local boards and commissions; and WHEREAS, Members of the Leadership Southwest session for 2002-2003 will learn about the legislative process during the program's Government Day class on January 15, 2003; they will meet with Texas legislators at a special breakfast, hear a presentation by the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, and tour the State Capitol complex; and WHEREAS, Selecting and training a diverse group of community leaders is a worthy goal, and Leadership Southwest has demonstrated a strong capacity to provide citizens with the opportunity to develop meaningful civic leadership skills; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Leadership Southwest as a model program for the development of future community leaders; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
