SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 10
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to L. G. Slider, Sr., on the grand occasion of his 85th birthday; and WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman is well known for his strength and generosity of spirit and is a revered resident in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas; and WHEREAS, L. G. Slider was born January 23, 1918, in Cameron, Texas; he moved to Dallas in 1939 and was married to the late Annie B. Slider for 63 years; Mr. and Mrs. Slider were blessed with three children, Bessie Slider Moody, L. G. Slider, Jr., and Mary Slider Culpepper, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mr. Slider worked for J. W. Davis and Company as an electronics technician for 50 years before retiring in 1995; following his retirement, he remained a consultant to the company for the next four years; and WHEREAS, In 1944, he started a small radio repair shop in his home, making free house calls and charging nominal fees; he continued his repair business until 1994, when he stopped in order to care for his wife; and WHEREAS, A respected member of his community, Mr. Slider is noted for his courage, his compassion for others, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; and WHEREAS, In celebration of his birthday, friends and family will gather at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel on January 25, 2003, to congratulate him and share in this important milestone in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby recognize L. G. Slider, Sr., as a treasured citizen of Dallas and the State of Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as a memento of this special day.
