SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 11
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Bessie Slider Moody on the occasion of her retirement
after 40 years of dedicated service to the Dallas Independent
School District; and
WHEREAS, For her many contributions to the educational
system of our state, the family, friends, and colleagues of
Bessie Moody will honor her at a retirement dinner on
January 25, 2003, at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody earned a bachelor's degree from
Texas Southern University in 1962 and received her elementary
teacher certification from Bishop College in 1969; she earned a
master's degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1974 and a
certificate in middle management from East Texas State University
in 1985; and
WHEREAS, After serving as a substitute teacher in the Dallas
Independent School District from 1962 to 1967, Bessie Moody held
a position as an elementary school teacher from 1967 to 1986; she
also served as an elementary school counselor from 1986 to 1989;
she has been a Title I administrative specialist since 1989, the
position from which she is retiring; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody has contributed to her profession
and her community through her participation in numerous
organizations; she has been a member of the National Education
Association, the National Association of Black School Educators,
and The Museum of African American Life and Culture; she has also
served as a member of the board and as president of Black Dallas
Remembered, Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Bessie has earned a number of honors
as a tribute to her excellent work in the field of education; she
received the 1997 State Leadership Award from the National
Association of Federal Education Program Administrators, and she
was elected Region X director for the Association of Compensatory
Educators of Texas; and
WHEREAS, An educator who has been an inspiration to her
colleagues during her 40-year career, Bessie Moody deserves
recognition for her hard work and her many accomplishments; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Bessie Slider Moody for her
excellent service as a teacher, counselor, and educational
administrator and extend best wishes to her for the retirement
years ahead; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
