SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 15
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, on the grand occasion of the sorority's 90th anniversary and the Dallas Alumnae Chapter's 79th anniversary; and WHEREAS, The sorority was founded on January 13, 1913, at Howard University by 22 African American women; its members provide leadership, serve as role models for other citizens, and work to support human rights issues locally, nationally, and internationally; and WHEREAS, Members of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter are involved in activities to improve the community through such scholarship and leadership programs as the Frederica Chase Dodd and Jabberwock Scholarship Programs, Black Dollar Day, the Betty Shabazz Academy, the Young Artists Renaissance Program, Talent Achievement Scholarship Personality, and the Teen Town Hall Leadership Program; and WHEREAS, The Dallas Alumnae Chapter is hosting its anniversary luncheon on Saturday, January 18, 2003; the organization is a valuable asset to the Dallas community and deserves recognition for its many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend members of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, for their outstanding contributions to the Dallas community and extend congratulations to them on the occasion of the sorority's anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
