SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Kris Anne Vogelpohl, who has been named Person of Vision for 2003 by Prevent Blindness; and WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Kris Anne has been involved in humanitarian causes for many years; she is only the second woman to receive a Person of Vision award from Prevent Blindness, an organization that provides eye examinations and glasses to the public and supports educational programs to prevent blindness; and WHEREAS, Well known for her work as a member of the board for Prevent Blindness, Kris Anne is also on the board of the Ronald McDonald House; in addition, she has served for 40 years on the board of the Salvation Army and is a past president of the Texas Medical Association Auxiliary; and WHEREAS, Kris Anne attended Texas A&M University; she worked for the Atomic Energy Commission and served as the chief therapeutic dietician at the medical school in Galveston; and WHEREAS, Under the administration of President Richard M. Nixon, Kris Anne was selected to serve on the Department of Defense Advisory Committee on Women in Service; in this capacity, she promoted the role of women in the military and helped ensure that women were accepted into all the military institutions; and WHEREAS, Kris Anne Vogelpohl has generously devoted her time and energy to the well-being of her fellowman, and her hard work on behalf of Prevent Blindness and other organizations deserves recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Kris Anne Vogelpohl for her many humanitarian endeavors and extend congratulations to her on earning the Person of Vision for 2003 award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
