SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 18
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize The Petra Christian Center on the occasion of its first anniversary; and WHEREAS, The Petra Christian Center was incorporated in January of 2002 in Stafford with a membership of approximately 25; today membership has grown to more than forty and is diverse in age and family make-up; and WHEREAS, With a mission to preach, teach, and serve others, The Petra Christian Center seeks to bring enlightenment and hope to the community of Stafford; its worship services, stewardship, and efforts to encourage those wounded in spirit are a reflection of the church's commitment to its mission; and WHEREAS, The Petra Christian Center's outreach program has been a joint venture with Amigos de Dios; through their partnership, the two Christian groups have provided meals to children and families through the brown bag summer lunch program; they have also delivered Thanksgiving packages to the Stafford community; and WHEREAS, The members of the congregation will convene on January 19, 2003, to celebrate their first year of working and praying together; Jacques D. Denkins, pastor of The Petra Christian Center, will be joined by Dr. William A. Lawson, pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, who will serve as guest preacher for this joyful occasion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby recognize The Petra Christian Center as a valued religious institution in Stafford and extend best wishes to all associated with the church; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
