SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 24

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Frank "Butch" Tudyk for his many years of dedication
to his Santa Sack project; and
	WHEREAS, Butch Tudyk has enjoyed a long career as a coach, 
health teacher, and counselor for the Poteet Independent School 
District, and he has long had a reputation for his friendly 
countenance and goodwill toward others; and
	WHEREAS, In 1987, during economically hard times in 
Poteet, he founded the Santa Sack project to provide a cheerful 
holiday to students and area children in need; the community 
responded to his call for donations of clothing, food, and money; 
through his efforts, an important annual community tradition was 
born; and
	WHEREAS, Over the years, the Santa Sack project has 
benefited from the support of Poteet residents who have opened 
their hearts and their pocketbooks to sustain this important 
community-wide effort; monetary contributions to the project 
grew from $1,800 in the first year to more than $10,700 last year; 
and
	WHEREAS, Coach Tudyk has engendered a genuine Christmas 
spirit in the City of Poteet and has been an inspiration to 
countless Poteet Independent School District students, many of 
whom have volunteered their time to help raise funds on behalf of 
the Santa Sack project; and
	WHEREAS, Coach Tudyk is now retiring, and after 16 years of 
managing the Santa Sack project, he is leaving it in the hands of 
the Poteet High School Interact Club; and
	WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman and community leader, 
Coach Tudyk deserves recognition for his invaluable 
contributions to the young people of Poteet and to the Poteet 
Independent School District; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to
Coach Frank Tudyk and extend best wishes to him for a happy 
retirement; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
