SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 35
In Memory
of
Carolyn Bigby Northington
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Meadowlakes and Marble Falls in mourning the loss of
Carolyn Bigby Northington, who died December 28, 2002, at the age
of 67; and
WHEREAS, Sara Carolyn Bigby was born on the family farm
in Runnels County to Minnie and Walter Nathaniel Bigby on
August 24, 1935; she attended Texas Tech University and was a
member of Delta Gamma Sorority; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn married Bob Northington on
January 30, 1954, and the couple raised three children; during
their years of work in the oil and gas industry, they lived in
many areas of New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, including 25 years
in Midland and nine years in Fort Worth; the couple moved to
Meadowlakes in 1993; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being a loving wife and mother,
Carolyn Northington was a good businesswoman; she was co-owner
of The Midland Company, a real estate, oil, and gas company, and
she helped to build a natural gas liquids extraction facility;
before she moved to the Texas Hill Country, she was an owner and
operator of Northingtons On The Park, an upscale women's
clothing, accessories, and gift store; and
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Carolyn gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew her; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Carolyn was a member of
Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marble Falls; she and her
husband were founding members of churches in Midland and
Amarillo; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Northington lived her life to the fullest
and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves
behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Carolyn Bigby Northington: her husband of
49 years, Bob Northington; her daughter and son-in-law,
Diana Northington and Peter Samporano; her sons and
daughters-in-law, Charles and Dina Northington and John and
Michele Northington; her brother, John Bigby; her sister,
Becky Bigby Block; and her 11 grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Carolyn Bigby Northington.
