SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 50
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the 23rd Annual Texas Parent Coordinating Council Conference, which is taking place at the Civic Center Grand Plaza in Amarillo from February 5 through 7, 2003; and WHEREAS, The conference is sponsored by the Title 1 Part A Education, Migrant Education, and Bilingual/ESL Education divisions of the Texas Education Agency; this important event targets parents of students served by the sponsoring divisions; and WHEREAS, The 23rd annual conference is called "Pathway to New Horizons"; the goals of the conference are "to plant seeds of knowledge, to grow strength, and to harvest success"; and WHEREAS, To foster parental involvement in education, the council is hosting an awards ceremony; in recognition of the important roles parents play in the education of their children, the council will be sponsoring a 2003 Parent of the Year Award; the award will be presented to three parents for their distinguished service in education through their active participation, leadership, and commitment; and WHEREAS, In addition, the 2003 Distinguished Service Award will be presented to a schoolteacher, teacher aide, school administrator, or community representative who has provided distinguished service, commitment, and leadership in fostering parental involvement in a school campus or district-wide program; and WHEREAS, The work of the Texas Parent Coordinating Council in promoting children's learning by fostering parental involvement is important to our state's educational system, and the council deserves recognition for the positive impact it has on the young people of Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the Texas Parent Coordinating Council for its valuable contributions to the field of education and extend best wishes to the sponsors and participants of this year's conference for a successful event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for all the conference attendees as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
