SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Anna Margaret Alexander of New Braunfels on the joyous
occasion of her 90th birthday on January 26, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Family and friends are gathering on Saturday,
January 25, 2003, to celebrate this milestone in her life; and
WHEREAS, Anna Margaret Fooshee was born January 26, 1913,
in Greenville, Texas; she graduated from Rice University in 1933
and married Joseph C. "Jake" Alexander on February 12, 1936; and
WHEREAS, Anna Margaret began her career as a high school
teacher and later became an advertising artist, designing
advertisements for shoe shops and department stores in Houston;
she later returned to teaching and retired as an art teacher; she
raised three daughters, Joanna, Ellen, and Mardi, and she is the
grandmother of Emily, Alexis, and Devin; and
WHEREAS, Anna Margaret moved to New Braunfels in 1981; she
helped found and is a board member of the New Braunfels Historic
Outdoor Art Gallery, a nonprofit corporation that places
historical murals on buildings in New Braunfels; a devout
Christian, she is active in Saint John's Episcopal Church, where
she is a member of the Altar Guild and the Daughters of the King;
and
WHEREAS, Today, Anna Margaret leads an active social
life and takes pleasure in the companionship of her family and
friends; she enjoys going out for meals and going to movies,
and she regularly goes to the gymnasium for exercise and water
aerobics and swims in the Comal River daily, the weather
permitting; in her neighborhood she is known as the "flower lady"
for the colorful garden she keeps; in addition to these
activities, Anna Margaret mentors students at a local elementary
school and volunteers at the New Braunfels visitors center; and
WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community,
Anna Margaret is noted for her vitality, her sense of humor, and
her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; and
WHEREAS, Anna Margaret is an inspiration to all who hope to
have an active life into their nineties; she is currently looking
forward to her 70th Class Reunion at Rice University and the
celebration she will have on her 100th birthday; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby join the family and friends of
Anna Margaret Alexander in extending to her best wishes and
congratulations on the grand occasion of her 90th birthday;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
