SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 60
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Debbie Bresette for her 20 years of outstanding service as executive director of the Family Crisis Center; and WHEREAS, The roots of the Family Crisis Center can be traced to meetings held by a small group of women with young children in Debbie Bresette's home in 1981; the group originally met to create a community of support for rural women, but the focus of the meetings soon turned to family violence because of the number of families in the area with violent relationships; and WHEREAS, Discussion about violence prevention turned into action, and the Bastrop County Women's Shelter was born; the organization was formally incorporated as the Family Crisis Center in 1983, and Debbie Bresette became its executive director; and WHEREAS, Over the years, she has nurtured the center and developed support through fund-raising and volunteer efforts, strategic planning, and staff management; and WHEREAS, Today, the Family Crisis Center is a comprehensive, nonprofit agency addressing the needs of victims of family violence, sexual assault, and child abuse in Bastrop, Fayette, Lee, and Colorado counties; its current $2 million budget is supported by funding from federal, state, local, and foundation sources; and WHEREAS, Debbie majored in child development and sociology at Texas Tech University and has continued her education with specialized training in issues concerning the family and violence; she is active in a number of organizations in the community, and in 1993 she was selected by the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce as its Woman of the Year; and WHEREAS, An exemplary lady who is noted for her generosity and compassion, Debbie Bresette is a source of strength to many, and she deserves recognition for her many accomplishments and her outstanding leadership at the Family Crisis Center; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Debbie Bresette for her invaluable service as founder and executive director of the Family Crisis Center and extend best wishes to her for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
