SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 62
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. John S. Farquhar for his outstanding service to veterans; and WHEREAS, A patriotic American, Dr. Farquhar served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War; he later earned a medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency in family practice at the Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana; he is board certified in family practice and emergency medicine; and WHEREAS, Dr. Farquhar has practiced at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock and served as chief of staff at Malone and Hogan Hospital and Scenic Mountain Medical Center; he helped establish and continues to practice at Family Medical Center of Big Spring, a rural health clinic; and WHEREAS, Dr. Farquhar is committed to serving the needs of veterans, and he brings his personal wartime experience to his work with them; in addition to looking after their medical needs, he strives to understand their military experience and their personal and family life and has developed a close and trusting relationship with his patients and their families; on the death of a veteran, he visits the family to console them on their loss; and WHEREAS, In his role as medical director at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring, Dr. Farquhar devotes countless hours to the care of patients; he visits them nearly every day, ensuring that their needs are met; and WHEREAS, A physician who has dedicated his life to helping a deserving group of Americans, Dr. Farquhar has fulfilled the highest ideals of the medical profession; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. John S. Farquhar for his devoted service to veterans; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
