SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 64
In Memory
of
William W. Roth
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of William W. Roth,
who died January 6, 2003, at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, Bill Roth was born in Hannibal, Missouri, and
served his country in the United States Army Air Force from 1941
to 1946; he returned to San Antonio in 1947 and began a 47-year
career with the Lone Star Brewing Company; and
WHEREAS, Bill was public affairs manager for the company
and was involved in over 100 organizations, including the
San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the San Antonio Livestock
Exposition, the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, and the
San Antonio and Texas Manufacturers Associations; he was
a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, Rotary Club,
Mexican-American Friendship Committee, United Fund, Army
Community Council, Air Force Community Council, and San Antonio
Anglers Club; and
WHEREAS, Recognized with many honors and awards during
his lifetime, Bill was especially proud of the Civilian
Distinguished Service Medal, the highest civilian award
presented by the United States Air Force; he was inducted into
the United States Jaycees Hall of Leadership in 1987, 40 years
after he joined the group; and
WHEREAS, His faith and his family were foremost in his
life, and he loved his adopted hometown of San Antonio; known as
Mr. Lone Star for his loyalty to his company, Bill became a good
friend to everyone he met; he was an avid conservationist, and he
loved hunting and fishing; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Bill Roth gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew him; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
the bereaved family of William W. Roth: his daughter,
Barbara Roth; his sister, Mary Osterloh; his grandchildren,
William Timothy Horan and his wife, Karen, Tammy Adams and her
husband, Keith, and Timothy F. Horan III and his wife,
Elizabeth; and his two great-grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of William W. Roth.
