SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Tuesday, February 4 as Senior Day 2003; and
WHEREAS, Senior citizens are the "heart of Texas"; they
have devoted their lives to making our state a better place to
live, work, and raise families, and they continue to contribute
to the welfare of this state, as they share their ample knowledge
and experience in the workplace and as volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Today's senior citizens have contributed
greatly to the betterment of our state and have had a positive
impact in such fields as education, industry, agriculture, space
exploration, information technology, music, arts, and sports;
they have also defended our nation's freedoms so that democracy
continues to flourish; and
WHEREAS, Because the true strength and character of any
society may be measured by how it treats its senior members, we
must always strive to ensure that older Texans are accorded not
only the services they need but also the opportunities and esteem
they so richly deserve; and
WHEREAS, The golden years hold great opportunities and
rewards, and older citizens should know that they are admired
and respected for the many gifts they have made to our state and
our country; it is fitting that a special day be set aside by
the Texas Legislature to honor those who have given so much to
succeeding generations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby recognize February 4, 2003, as Senior Day
and gratefully salute our seniors who are healthy and active and
those who have special needs; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of all the senior citizens of our state.
