SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 94
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Pfizer, Incorporated, and to proclaim February 4, 2003, as Pfizer Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Pfizer, Incorporated, the leading research-based pharmaceutical manufacturer, will celebrate its 154th anniversary this year; over its long history, the company has become an international leader in discovering, developing, and delivering new and lifesaving prescription medications to Texans and people throughout the world; and WHEREAS, The manufacturer has produced numerous life-improving medications, such as Lipitor, Celebrex, Norvasc, Zyrtec, Zoloft, Viagra, and Rescriptor; it is currently conducting extensive research with the hope of producing new lifesaving medications for future generations; and WHEREAS, A survey by The Chronicle of Philanthropy found that Pfizer, Incorporated, is the largest corporate donor in the United States; last year, it donated over $450 million in medications to the indigent and uninsured; and WHEREAS, The manufacturer has been a proud partner with the State of Texas; in 2002, it supported Medicaid, CHIP, and other medical assistance programs by providing rebates to the state of approximately $136 million; also in 2002, the company donated more than $200 million worth of product samples to Texas physicians for distribution to needy patients, and Pfizer employees in the state generously contributed over $690,000 to nonprofit organizations; and WHEREAS, A truly philanthropic company, Pfizer, Incorporated, has pursued policies that have improved the quality of life for many Texans and countless people throughout the world; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Pfizer, Incorporated, on its outstanding accomplishments and extend best wishes to the members of the Pfizer delegation for an enjoyable visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Pfizer, Incorporated, as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
