SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 134
In Memory
of
JoAnn Bennett Bardin
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Austin in mourning the loss of JoAnn Bennett Bardin, who died
January 30, 2003, at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, JoAnn Bennett was born December 9, 1929, in
Vernon, Texas, to Wylie Wilson Bennett and Effie Cara Smith Bennett;
when JoAnn was four years old, the family moved to Austin; she was
a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School, where she was chosen
Class Favorite in her junior year; and
WHEREAS, She received two bachelor's degrees from
The University of Texas and served as president of Kappa Alpha
Theta Sorority; while at the university, she met and married the
Reverend Keith M. Bardin, chaplain to the students at All Saints
Episcopal Church; he preceded her in death in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Bardin was dedicated to her work as a homemaker
and was respected in the community for her accomplishments; after
her children were grown, she joined the staff of The News and
Information Service at The University of Texas, where she was
recognized a number of times for her writing; and
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Mrs. Bardin gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew
her; and
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of JoAnn Bennett Bardin: her sister,
Mary Jeannette Bennett Harty; her four children,
Keith Morris Bardin, Jr., Christopher Cary Bardin,
Ellen Odom Bardin, and Elizabeth O'Neal Bardin Steed; and
her six grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of JoAnn Bardin.
