SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 135
WHEREAS, Hundreds of librarians and library supporters
from across Texas are visiting Austin on February 12, 2003, to
celebrate Library Day at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, This state's public, academic, and special
libraries provide services to more than 20 million Texans
every year and play a key role in narrowing the digital divide,
encouraging lifelong learning, and combating illiteracy; and
WHEREAS, Libraries are a repository for humanity's
knowledge, culture, and aspirations, and the free flow of
information they facilitate allows patrons to build
brighter and more promising futures for both themselves
and the Lone Star State; and
WHEREAS, The men and women who staff these invaluable
institutions are professionals who are committed to providing
the public with the informational resources needed to succeed
in life, and it is a pleasure to honor them for their dedicated
efforts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby recognize February 12, 2003, as Library
Day 2003 at the State Capitol and extend to all the visiting
delegation sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable
visit to Austin.
