SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 149
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Coach G. A. Moore as the all-time winningest high school football coach in Texas; and WHEREAS, On November 8, 2002, Coach Moore led the Pilot Point Bearcats to a 27-13 victory over Van Alstyne; the occasion marked the 397th time in his 40-year career that he had achieved such a triumph; with this victory, he set a record in the annals of high school football coaching; and WHEREAS, At a reception following the game, the booster club presented Coach Moore with a trophy to commemorate his accomplishment; his team, many of his colleagues and former players, and his many fans joined him and his family at the celebration; they remembered his important contributions as an ambassador of goodwill in the communities where he has served as a coach and talked about his drive and competitiveness and his high ideals of sportsmanship; and WHEREAS, While a high school student in Pilot Point, G. A. Moore was an outstanding athlete; he earned 16 letters during his high school career and helped his team win a Class A district title in 1954; and WHEREAS, Coach Moore began his stellar high school coaching career as a young and inexperienced coach for Bryson High School on a rainy September night in 1962; under his guidance, the Bryson team scored a 6-0 victory over Prosper, breaking the team's losing streak of 21 games; and WHEREAS, G. A. Moore has compiled an extraordinary coaching record of 397-74-9 and led nine teams to state titles at four schools, Pilot Point, Celina, Bryson, and Sherman; and WHEREAS, Coach Moore has achieved greatness as a successful high school football coach, and he has motivated countless young people to work together for a common goal; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend and congratulateCoach G. A. Moore on his most recent achievement and extend best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
