SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 158
In Memory
of
Jerry W. Allen
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Jerry W. Allen, who died December 28, 2002, at the age of 62; and WHEREAS, Jerry Allen was born October 8, 1940, in Texarkana; he grew up in West Memphis, Arkansas, and graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering; and WHEREAS, After working as the chief engineer for Fort Worth's Public Works Department, he joined Carter & Burgess, Incorporated, a Fort Worth-based architectural and engineering company, in 1969; recognized as an excellent civil engineer, he was involved in land development projects and in the construction of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; and WHEREAS, Mr. Allen became a vice president and part owner of Carter & Burgess in 1973 and was named executive vice president in 1985; he became president and chief executive officer in 1988, and under his leadership the company thrived; in 2002, Carter & Burgess received the annual Spirit of Enterprise Award from the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, Jerry Allen gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Jerry W. Allen: his wife, Paula Allen; his son, John M. Allen; and his brother, James D. Allen; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry W. Allen.
